John M. Shartrand, ChFC, AAMS, Chief Investment Officer

John M. Shartrand, ChFC, AAMS, Chief Investment Officer

A graduate of Canisius College in Buffalo, John holds a Bachelor of Science in Finance and has been active in the Financial Services industry since 1983. John is a member of the Society of Financial Professionals with a specific interest in estate planning. He earned the Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC) and Accredited Asset Management Specialist (AAMS) designations. He also has the FINRA Series 6, 7 and 63 registrations which are held with LPL Financial, the NYS Life and Accident & Health Insurance Licenses, and General Securities Principal Series 24.

He is committed to continuing education in order to enhance the level of service he can provide to his clients and has completed many courses and workshops in the financial services industry. More than 20 years of experience as a business owner and financial consultant has given him an excellent background with which to lead our team at CCFS.

John supports causes for children, educational endeavors and economic empowerment. He was a board member of the Hudson Valley Community College Foundation from 2005 to 2015 and was chairman from 2011 to 2013. He has been a Junior Achievement instructor many times and supports the CAP COM Cares Foundation through ongoing volunteer work. He is currently on the Northeast/Seton Health Foundation board, part of the St. Peter’s Health Partners family. He joined CAP COM in 1995 and was named CIO in 2001.

Jim Faranda, Sr. Financial Consultant

Jim Faranda, Sr. Financial Consultant

Jim provides retirement, estate, tax and income planning for Credit Union members, oversees the CAP COM Financial Tax Division and serves as mentor to the Advisory Team. Actively involved in the community, he presently serves on the Board of Vanderheyden, a premier youth, individual and family service agency.

Jim has a Bachelor of Science in Finance from Siena College. He is registered with the nation’s largest independent broker-dealer, LPL Financial, and also with the IRS as a Registered Income Tax Preparer. He holds Series 6, 7, 63 and 66 securities registrations with FINRA as well as the NYS Life and Health Insurance Licenses and a NYS Notary Public Certification. LPL Financial has recognized Jim as a top advisor since 2003, naming him for the Bank Insurance & Securities Association’s (BISA) “Top 200 Advisor Program” in 2011 and nominating him for Bank Investment Consultant Magazine’s “Top 50 Advisors” in 2014.

Brian brings nearly 10 years of corporate experience to CCFS. He helped launch two local businesses and holds a Series 24, General Securities Principal license, as well as Series 7 and 63 licenses with LPL Financial. Additionally, Brian holds the NYS Life, Accident & Health Insurance License. Along with oversight of CCFS business development, the educational workshop program and operations, Brian also leads our branch network of financial advisors and insurance specialists, working to help connect credit union members with CCFS.

Steven A. Massey, CRPC, Sr. Financial Consultant

Steven A. Massey, CRPC, Sr. Financial Consultant

Steve joined our Financial Advisory team in 2002. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from SUNY Albany. He holds Series 7 and Series 66 registrations with LPL Financial as well as the NYS Life and Health Insurance license. Steven has earned the Certified Retirement Planning Counselor (CRPC) designation, the nation’s premier retirement planning credential. This designation, combined with years of experience in the industry, arms him with the most current information on retirement planning.

Steven has conducted hundreds of offsite financial planning workshops and other speaking engagements to share valuable financial planning concepts.

Harry Hartman, Sr.  Financial Consultant, CFP®

Harry Hartman, Sr. Financial Consultant, CFP®

Harry joined CAP COM Financial Services in 2007 with an extensive background in financial services. After graduating in 1988 from SUNY Plattsburgh with a Bachelor of Science in Business Management, he worked as a broker on various trading floors from 1990 to 2004, specializing in Eurodollar CDs, Interest Rate Derivatives and Energy Futures. Harry came to the Capital Region in 2004 as a Financial Advisor. His Series 7 and 66 registrations are held at LPL Financial and he also holds the NYS Life & Health Insurance license.

Harry is authorized by the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards (CFP Board) to use the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNERand CFP® certification marks. CFP® professionals must pass the comprehensive CFP® Certification Examination, pass CFP Board's Fitness Standards for Candidates and Professionals Eligible for Reinstatement, agree to abide by CFP Board's Code of Ethics and Professional Responsibility and Rules of Conduct which put clients' interests first and comply with the Financial Planning Practice Standards which spell out what clients should be able to reasonably expect from the financial planning engagement. This certification, along with Harry’s education and experience assure CCFS clients that their finances are managed with the highest level of professionalism and responsibility.

Willis Reed, Director of Insurance Services

Willis Reed, Director of Insurance Services

Willis joined CAP COM in 2009. With 25 years of experience in the credit union industry, he brings valuable experience to CCFS and knowledge of financial institutional operations in the areas of lending, risk management, investments and employee benefits. In previous roles, Willis has worked with the largest credit unions in New York, Connecticut and Massachusetts. A graduate of Canisius College, he holds licenses for life, health, property and casualty insurance in 13 states, as well as several industry education certificates.

Ricki joined CAP COM in 2001 and is a Registered Administrative Assistant with our brokerage firm, LPL Financial. She graduated from Empire State College with a Bachelor of Science in Business, Management and Economics with a concentration in Finance. She has Series 7 and Series 66 registrations with LPL and also holds her NYS Life, Accident & Health Insurance licenses. Her knowledge of financial products and exemplary service skills make her a valuable member of our team.

Tobie L. Schlosstein, JD, MPA, Lead Tax Preparer

Tobie L. Schlosstein, JD, MPA, Lead Tax Preparer

Tobie brings more than 19 years of diverse tax experience to her role. A licensed Attorney in New York and Massachusetts, she earned her Bachelor of Arts from Hartwick College in Oneonta, New York, a Master of Public Administration from Suffolk University in Boston and a Juris Doctor from The Massachusetts School of Law.

Prior to joining CAP COM, Tobie built her law practice to focus on estate, family and tax law. She moved back to Albany to be closer to her family after getting married and starting a family of her own. Tobie is dedicated to helping clients understand the current tax laws and helping guide their decisions to reach their financial goals.

Noreen Connor, Client Service Associate

Noreen Connor, Client Service Associate

Noreen joined the CAP COM team in 2001 after working with a local financial planning firm for 12 years. Her vast experience in the financial services industry allows her to anticipate the needs of our clients and work as a liaison between them, the investment firms we work with and our Financial Advisors. Between January and April, you’ll find Noreen focused on our tax business. As our Tax Coordinator, she works with 10 tax staff members and hundreds of clients to help make what could be a complicated process run smoothly and efficiently.

Darlene joined the CAP COM team in 2009. She graduated from Sage JCA with an associate’s degree in Office Information Management. In her position at CCFS, Darlene ensures that our clients receive superior service and that they experience a high level of professionalism and expertise every time they interact with our firm. She also serves as a liaison between our clients, our Advisors and the investment firms we represent.

Vicki Vielkind, Client Service Associate

Prior to joining the CAP COM Financial team in 2006, Vicki worked for a Capital Region law firm for 16 years. As a Client Service Associate and Insurance Service Associate at CCFS, Vicki acts as the main liaison for members and answers their financial, insurance and risk concerns. She is vital to the member experience and service standards we extend to CAP COM Financial clients.

As the first contact that many of our clients have with CCFS, Kathy warmly welcomes clients, representing our firm with the kind of customer service skills we are known for. Prior to joining the CAP COM team in 2012, Kathy worked as an Administrative Assistant at a local health insurance provider.
